Postal address validation service (AVS) for New Zealand addresses

AVS Banner

AVS was originally developed as part of a tool for migrating address lists into the new NZ formats and Zip Codes that were introduced by the New Zealand Post Office (NZPO) in June 2008.

However, this component has some really useful capabilities and software developers who are building aplications that require entry of NZ address data, may find it enhances the saleability of their package with some possibly unique features...

* - AVS can read and analyze FREE FORMAT address data!

This means your input form does NOT have to be broken into fields like "street", "town" etc. (although it CAN be if you want the traditional fixed format style of entry.) Instead, you provide a single input textbox (may be multiline, or single line). Here's an example...

Example of Free format input...

Note that the Free-Format option has used abbreviations and there is NO postal code. This means the number of key strokes to enter the Free-Format data was 53 while the same data entered in Fixed-Format was 86, a saving of 46%. This can be important where large amounts of address data have to be entered to a system manually.

"OK, Let me try it myself!"...

(More recent (new) streets and subdivisions may not be reflected on the test database. If you were unable to validate what you believe is a valid NZ address, please paste the address into a mail and send it to us.)

* - We can provide AVS in a number of formats.

AVS can be delivered to you as a web service running on our server which you can subscribe to ($1 per week, with automatic updates),OR, as a COM component, along with a local database, that you can embed into your own software (one time charge of $250, including the database, or $100 without the database), OR, you can have a desktop application (.EXE) that can be configured to accept existing address lists and validate/update them to ensure NZPO compliance and correct Postal Code (ZIP). ($275)

If you decide to embed the code into your own application, we provide the database as MS Access by default, but we can accommodate any of the major RDBMS if you want something else. (There is a $100 conversion fee for this.)

We will talk to you about providing the source code of the validation engine (in Fujitsu NetCOBOL) or the Web Service (C# for .Net 3.5) if you require the source code.

Please be aware that the NZPO PAF file costs $3000 and has to be relicensed every year; AVS costs less than 10% of that, and is a one-time charge...
